The spring exhibitions in Sorrento

The season of the great cultural events sponsored by Fondazione Sorrento starts once again. Two exhibitions will take place between spring and autumn 2016 which will retrace the painting and sculpting arts of the 20th century through the masterpieces of the great Maestri of the Italian art.

After the great success of the 2015 Arnaldo Pomodoro exhibition in 2015, anticipated by placing the most significant art pieces of the Maestro in the main city piazzas, also this year travellers who have chosen Sorrento as their Easter holiday location have been able to admire while strolling through the city centre a few art pieces of great interest which anticipate the event “XX secolo-cento anni di arte italianaone hundred years of Italian art“, the double exhibition dedicated to painting and sculpture of the 20th century.
La Porta di Edipo” by Augusto Perez in Piazza Andrea Veniero is a particularly evocative Item for its value as an element of passage, from one place to another, from one dimension to the other. In Piazza Sant’Antonino the sculpture “Bifrontale uno” by Pietro Consagra can be found and it is a symbol of the artist’s research for a two-dimensional and frontal approach which makes it a must-see for the spectator. Umberto Mastroianni’s “Sviluppo di froma” can be found in Piazza Tasso and in Piazza Lauro “Tebe seduta” by Giacomo Manzù. Finally, the entrance fountain of Villa Fiorentino hosts the “Grande Contorsionista”, a powerful work by Luciano Minguzzi which seems to be under some sort of strain which leads the subject to a kind of body dislocation.
From April 8th to June 26th, the halls of Villa Fiorentino open up to the Italian 20th century painting exhibition: “Visioni Trasversali nella pittura Italiana del XX secolo”. From July 9th to November 6th the second leg of the exhibition will take place with some of the most significant sculptures of the century.
